The Daniel Boone National Forest offers an expansive network of over 150 miles of Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) trails, inviting outdoor enthusiasts to experience the beauty of Kentucky’s natural landscapes. These trails provide diverse options for all users, including horseback riders, mountain bikers, and hikers, making it essential for everyone to exercise caution, share the trail, and show respect to others for a safe and enjoyable experience. Some trails are designated as multi-use, shared by two or more groups, such as hikers, horseback riders, mountain bikers, and OHV users. To ensure a positive experience for all visitors, please follow any posted rules and regulations, practice courtesy, and yield appropriately to other trail users. Permit Requirements for Larger Groups: Because this area is so popular, if you're planning an outing with 75 or more people or organizing a guided tour through a commercial outfitter, a Special Use permit is required to minimize environmental impact and manage trail traffic. This permit helps maintain the natural integrity of the forest, preserving it for future generations. Accessibility: It’s important to note that most trails in Daniel Boone National Forest do not meet accessibility standards for individuals with disabilities due to the challenging natural terrain. Please plan accordingly if accessibility is a concern. Designated OHV Trails and Fees: The Redbird District and White Sulphur OHV Trails are the forest’s two primary designated OHV trail systems. Each motorized vehicle requires a fee pass to access these trails, which must be prominently displayed while riding. These passes help fund trail maintenance, keeping the routes safe and navigable for all visitors. Additional Trails for Specialized Use: Aside from the main OHV systems, the forest includes several shorter trails that offer seasonal access for hunters and other casual users. These trails provide a closer connection to nature and unique recreational opportunities, allowing hunters and explorers to enjoy the forest responsibly. Motor vehicle use maps for each district identify designated trails and access points. Note that all other areas of the forest are off-limits to OHVs to protect sensitive ecosystems and wildlife. Whether you’re a seasoned trail rider or new to OHV use, please check trail conditions, obtain any necessary permits, and respect all regulations. Visit the Daniel Boone National Forest website for a complete list of guidelines, trail maps, and updates on trail conditions to make the most of your visit. The links below will take you to trail maps for the entire Daniel Boone National Forest. We recommend starting with the Redbird District because of proximity and quality of trails.
